The extra ‘travel’ days, which often happen in the middle of a home stand and re clearly not for travel, make these series into a fundamentally different game than the regular season.  A team with two or three outstanding starting pitchers (and mediocrity after that) has a far better chance to be good in this format than in the regular season, where starting pitching depth is a huge factor.

If you want the results of the playoffs to better mirror the results of the regular season, get rid of the extra days off inserted for television.  It also would help avoid playing in awful conditions in late October and even November, which again could skew the results and level the playing field from games played in the regular season.
