The History of the Syracuse/Georgetown Rivalry

Great article.
Thanks. Still can't believe that Michael Graham punch. You can clearly see the official coming from the top right of the screen ejecting him, then they talk to John Thompson, and say "nevermind let's not reject him" ??? Ridiculous.

They will always be enemy #1. It would be a crime if this rivalry did not continue post ACC move.

Agreed. I'll miss playing Nova, St. Johns and UConn if those series stop, but not nearly as much as I'll miss Georgetown.

I think it will. Boeheim knows the importance of the rivalry, and I would expect you see St. John's and Georgetown on the non-conference schedule every year. One home, one away.

We will continue to play the Hoyas, Redmen and Nova to maintain recruiting access to those markets. Screw the Friars and Huskies. UConn will melt back into obscurity when Calhoun retires and the big time programs refuse to play them. The Huskies should be worried about being completely frozen out of the NYC and Boston markets.

I don't think we maintain a regular, year in year out, rivalry with Nova.

What a great article! It's also worth noting that this is one of the few rivalries in college sports that isn't based on geographic proximity. C'mon sports fans, what are some other ones?

LOL. Anybody here ?

I almost think Nova is the one that is most important to maintain as fertile as the Philadelphia region is for prospects and how well we've done recruiting the area. Warrick, Waiters, Jardine, Jackson & Christmas in the last 10 years. Throw GMAC and Cooney in as they are in or near the Delaware Valley.

Georgetown is important from a historical rivalry perspective, but not so much from a recruiting perspective as we'll get exposure to the Capitol region as a member of the ACC and playing Maryland.

St. John's importance as a rival has been marginalized over the last 10 -15 years and there are plenty of opportunities to get into the Garden for pre-season tournaments or even a one-off neutral court matchup. Who was the last big NYC recruit we reeled in? Not sure I would worry about the St. Johns series.

Although, we are New York's college team.
