This has been bothering me all week and I haven't seen it talked about here yet (sorry if it already was). But shouldn't that hit on Ryan, the one where the defender put his helmet into his gut, have been a penalty for leading with the helmet, or does that rule only apply when helmet to helmet. Someone please clarify that rule for me. If I am right that would have been an automatic first down.

I'm pretty confident it was spearing and it wasn't called. Especially in light of it being a QB and the general tendency to protect QB's from unnecessary roughness.

Contrary to what HCDM and HC Fitzgerald stated, I think that there were many questionable calls and even more questionable no calls i.e. holding.

Both team's wideouts got away with some major holds on the outside, although somehow I only seemed to notice their wideouts doing it.

Contrary to what HCDM & Fitzgerald said, the refs were lousy. One of them determined the outcome of the game.

So Northwestern is going to win the NC this year, eh? (Shades of Tennessee game)

Agreed with the first sentence but can't go as far as the second. We shouldn't have put them in the position to determine anything and they didn't by any means.

IMO, that was a football play. I think you would agree if it was on coulter instead of Nassib.

And I would rather complain about the late hit call, anyway.

Head down, leading with your helmet, direct shot to a player's rib cage - it's spearing. He lunged into Nassib and made direct contact with the crown of his helmet first. If his face was up and his facemask had made the contact then it would be a different story and a very clean and good football hit. But that wasn't the case.

I definitely agree though...if I was going to complain about any play it would have been the late hit call. But I was really surprised there wasn't a penalty on that hit on Nassib.

How about the awful face mask that the on NW receiver against Eskrige that wasn't called? Turned his head completely around.

I think it was a solid, clean hit. Nailwd him with shoulder and head came across body.

Lets stop whining on a couple maybe plays. Winners win. We showed improvement, but didnt perform well enougj to win over the 60past mins allotted on our own turf.

I agree, not only was it possibly spearing but also a late hit.

Winning and losing has nothing to do with dangerous plays. Either you had a bad view of the play, bad vision, or a bad memory - his head was down and straight into Nassibs rib cage.

A football play would be shoulder first, that was definitely a missed call... I was amazed that this hadn't been brought up earlier... considering for a minute or so it looked like the season was about to get infinitely more difficult.
