I little devil's advocate here folks, just to warn the more sensitive amongst you. A society that focuses it's ire on something like this must be doing really well. The idea of changing rules to account for this anomaly defies logic when one considers how often it occurs in relation to how often it doesn't. Further, newmexicuse shows how close it was to being successful, and at the very least is the proper practice in a rare in game opportunity for use later whenever some of you would figure it is warranted. As a coach I would want that opportunity to discipline my team and use that it when it presented itself, and not be beholden to fans or corporate interests or anything else that would stand in the way of the preparation of my team. Of course most fans don't have a coaches' mentality, and unfortunately a number of coaches don't seem to either. Chances are the Syracuse game being on probably effected the emotions and the latter logic used to support them. In Blackjack "insurance" is called a sucker's bet. Wanting to prevent every anomaly in life, often at greater expense overall, would also seem to be an error in logic. I could be wrong though. That said, I do understand the frustration of not being able to watch our game. Maybe if any rules be changed, one should consider the occasional moving the tip of networked games back, at least of to an extent, for network games. They savvy fans at the game would relax in the comfort of knowing they are taking one for the team with all the revenue generated by the network showing the game, and the fans at home wouldnt have to worry about missing any action. Seems like a reasonable compromise to keep all sides as happy as possible while not compromising the integrity of the game.
