Throwing a body in there is easy but if the university is actually looking for a high end type it may well be willing to spend the $to land a person who might want to go after program changing coaches for football . Basketball is covered for the moment. Considering the lacrosse program for the last few years who knows what is being thought there? It may not be as obvious as first thought. This last team was "loaded" and we all know what happened. As soon as a person is announced we will have the answer. His or her resume will tell all. Waiting for this shoe to drop is frustrating. Not even a rumored name yet is kind of strange. Personally I think its going to be a huge deal when this hire is completed. Just a hunch based on time and need.

I'd rather have them take the time to get the right person. IMO, Syverud has a vision (for athletics) and he wants an AD who will be one who can realize that. Is it a vision we all want? Who knows - time will tell. Desko is safe, IMO. At least for the near future.

I wouldn't expect someone til closer to the start of school.

No leaks. No rumors. Not even much recent speculation by those on the board who are connected.

Not exactly "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma"; but interesting, nonetheless.

I wonder, does this mean that they didn't have a game plan in place before they let Daryl Gross go?

Deadline for resumes to be submitted for the job opening is June 15th. They hired a firm months ago to head up the search. Pretty sure they know what they're doing, they just aren't as impatient as we are.

This is very normal. ADs aren't needed on an absolute deadline like a football coach when you have recruiting, etc. Let them take their time and make the right decision. Pete Sala is a capable interim AD. they are lucky to have him right now and allows them to be intelligent about this decision.

i think the chancellor has a vision as well, but as you say, is it something we all want/ i suspect not, with the belt tightening scenario

If Syverud has any business sense (and he has) he will probably look favorably at programs (academic and otherwise) that have demand, can make money or be self-supportive. For the ones that don't, he has to determine if they essential to the school's mission. After that he can prioritize those to expand and those to de-emphasize or eliminate.

Anyone that looks at the ACC with an objective view will see expanding revenues and great potential. The biased budget study notwithstanding, SU's national prominence is more widely identified with athletics than academics. That probably drives many insane, but I think it is true. Even one of our most visible programs is heavily related to athletics. Everywhere I go with a logo hat of shirt, someone will say "Go Cuse" or "Go Orange". I have yet to have anyone say " Go Engineering". "Go Whitman" or "Go Maxwell". Facetious? Yes, but you get the point.

The biggest bitch from academic departments is that while the football program rebates tuition to the schools its players attend, the surcharge the university charges for overhead (on those athletic related rebates) is not. I think TGC is smart enough to give that concern the weight it deserves (which is de minimis).

Recognizing that we are not the Lone Ranger (or even the Dome Ranger anymore), we will be OK and will probably fare as well as everyone else facing a declining student pool.

Can we stop with this?

Reigning in spending like drunken sailors does not mean we're about to slash the AD budget to the bone.

I was gonna say, I wouldn't expect anything until at least July. I'd expect it to start taking real shape around the turn of the fiscal year, which at least for a lot of academic institutions is July 1.
