To land the #1 prospect in the state, for perception alone, is huge. Someone like EO doesn't even have to become a star. It's more about keeping the #1 prospect in the state, in the state. You don't think recruits thinking about choosing Rutgers will think twice about it with us playing USC in their backyard? I'm glad Gross is the AD and not some of you guys. Would you rather go back to Jake? He was a good AD, but had zero vision and wasn't forward thinking. Forward thinking means you're going to have some stinkers (GRob/Nikegate) and take some chances/sacrifices (this game). I was at the game, and while it seemed like there were slightly more USC fans, I think it was a great success. What do you expect, when they are #2 in the country vs. a "SU is a basketball school" team still turning it around? Re: NYC alum. Most NYC residents don't have a car. I don't know what the breakdown of tri-state alums residing in NYC is, but it's something to think about. The bus to Syracuse is awful and the train takes forever (especially if you get stuck behind a freight train). It sucks to lose a true home game, but I have little sympathy for the "Syracuse traffic!" types. We have some great fans. Just look at the MSG games. But we're a small private school. We will never fill up stadiums like a public state school. Which is why I think we need to brand the entire state (and not just NYC). Hell, let's play a game in Buffalo, too! You know why else it was successful? I haven't heard one person mention the "Syracuse is turning it around" thing when talking about the game. We're now officially average. That's a helluva lot better than where we were a few years ago.
