I thought this was an interesting read. First it shows that RU hasn't been able to keep that top talent at home (Sounds familiar). And that just because a kid is a top 20 player doesn't mean he will be a success at the college level. I wouldn't mind seeing a series of these articles for NY...are you listening PS lurkers.

Whenever there's discussion about how Rutgers can reach the next level, there is near universal agreement that the key is retaining more of the top recruits from New Jersey. Rutgers' proximity to homegrown talent should provide an advantage, but the program has been unable to build the proverbial wall around New Jersey.

"They have to get five out of the top 10 if they want to take the next step. And I would say probably 9-10 out of the top 20," Mike Farrell, the national recruiting director for , said in February. "Set your goals high. They're not close to that right now. But they were in the (Darius) Hamilton year (in 2012) and they had a few guys who were committed before the disaster of (2014), too, so it can be done. But I think it's important not to allow other schools to come in and just cherry pick who they want."

Not sure what to make of the 2011 list. Seems that either much of the New Jersey talent was over-rated that year or the Top 20 list is a crap-shoot.

Wow, that is terrible. 3 of the top 4 players did time at Rutgers, and nothing else. They either transferred out, or left the program after transferring in. They got some run from guys lower down the list, but what the hell happened at the top of the list? Either the ratings are for shiite, or Rutgers destroyed those kids, or both.

2010 was a down year for Jersey talent and 2011 was slightly overrated especially Savon Huggins. A couple of services had him a five star. Football is big in Jersey and there are more kids playing and thus more talent and better teams than New York. Coaching is betterwith more off season programs. There are more prep schools that attract the talent like Bosco Bergen Catholic St Peters Hun School..... Looking at 2015 Rutgers has only 2 players from the top 20, number 13 Najee Clayton and no 19... The question I ask is Syracuse as pathetic when it comes to recruiting top 20 NY talent? as Rutgers is recruiting top 20 Jersey talent. Another question is : Is Georgia and Florida 80-100 talent better than NY top 20.
Also...looking at film of Huggins and Strickland, Dontae is a much better runner/all around athlete than Savon could ever hope to be!
