There is a tavern about 5 miles from my house and needless to say, my wife always drives home whenever we go there. Burton Baton is really good. They have a stout on tap now that is called Red&Black – 10.5% ABV, finished with a hint of raspberries and mint. I love it, although I can only drink one. Young’s Double Chocolate Stout is awesome if imbibed infrequently. I like stouts quite a lot and Guinness is one of my favorites too. Bell’s Double Stout is really good as well. I used to like Sam Adam’s Cream Stout but I don’t think it’s as good as it used to be. I also liked their Honey Porter but it seems hard to find now. There was a pub in Ithaca that I lived above in the mid-90s that served Whatney’s Cream Stout. I LOVED this, but I haven’t been able to find it in years. Lately I’ve been really into Lagunitis brewing company. I love their Lil ‘Sumpin’ Sumpin’ ale – it’s like a wheat/IPA hybrid, it’s awesome. So is their Maximus IPA, and their Censored Red. I’ve never had any of their darker offerings yet. I really like Evolution IPA (#9). Very good. (I’m a big IPA fan if you can’t tell). Probably my favorite ‘all purpose’ beer is Red Hook Long Hammer IPA. Guaranteed to get you long hammered! Also a big fan of the Belgians – Hoegaarden, Don de Dieu (introduced to me by Jake!), most of the Omegang stuff. Tonight I’m actually kegging a Belgian Wheat I just brewed. Franziskaner Hefeweizen is also a favorite, although that’s not technically Belgian. I also like Aventinus. Bateman’s XXX is another of my favorites, although hard to find now. Old Peculiar (mentioned earlier – I used to get this at a polish deli in Brooklyn, great for a sticky NYC summer day).
