It has to do with how many positions they can play and how many combinations of 5 players they fit in well with. The bench scoring/spark plug argument makes more sense but if that is really your reason why not start Howard and use Gillon in that roll. Gillon could be a pace changer like Scoop was in 09.

The Lydon can handle the bench role better is a BS argument to me especially when you want him to be a more aggressive star mentality player this year. It goes against that mindset to ask him to sit in favor of a guy who has shown zero consistent offense over the last 3 seasons and has disappeared production wise for multi game stretches at times. Starting Lydon is whats best for this team this year. This is a completely different situation than Dion's was.
