The labor troubles in the NHL got so bad that the entire season was canceled.

Both the Yankees and Red Sox finished 95-67 but the Yankees won the season’s series and the 5 team AL East. They were better than 25 teams. They lost in the quarterfinals to the Angels in 5 games. That’s 32 points. The Mets were starting to percolate again, improving to 83-79, which would have won the NL West but not, alas, the NL East. They didn’t get the wild card, either. They were better than 17 teams. OG: 38 NB:30.

The Giants went 11-5 and won the 4 team NFC East. They were better than 22 teams.  The Jets sank to 4-12 and last place, better than 2 teams. The Giants got embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs by the Panthers, 0-23. But great grandpop could assuage the wound with the knowledge that the old Guard was back on top, 65-32, the first time they combined for less than 100 points in 14 years.
