The Nets, (34-48) and the Knicks, (23-59), were both on the down elevator, finishing 4th and 5th. They were better than 9 and 4 teams, respectively. Neither made the playoffs.

Then they lost to the Penquins in the quarters, also in 5 games. That tied it up: NB 38, OG 38.

The Yankees slipped to 89-73 and 3rd place, better than 22 teams. But they missed the playoffs for the first time since the strike. The Mets were also 89-73 due to their latest collapse. They were thus better than the same 22 teams and also did not make the playoffs. We were still tied, 60-60.

The Giants broke the tie with a 12-4 record to the jets 9-7. The Giants won the 4 team NFC East while the Jets were 3rd in the AFC East. The Giants were better than 26 teams, the Jets 16. The Giants lost to the Eagles in the quarters, 11-23. Final score: OG 90 NB: 76.
