It's just unintelligent football and a lack of situational awareness. We were down 10 with 4th and 10 on their 40 yard line with 7 minutes left.

If we're way deep in our own territory, yes you probably punt. If we're down one score, yes you probably punt. If it's 4th and something insane like 20, yes you probably punt. If there's say 12 minutes left, yes you probably punt.

But in that situation, it was such a stupid overly conservative decision. Even if we hold them to a 3 and out, we're likely killing three precious minutes off the clock which we can't afford to lose. The margin of error basically disappears.

I honestly would have rather Andre attempted a 57 yard field goal to cut it to one score than punt that.

Cut it straight.

dino showed himself vs pitt last year.

i wasnt surprised.

If he doesnt fight for his job we shouldn’t fight to think why we should be ok with him keeping it

Dino just showed he has no faith in Devito...why he punted and why its time for Shrader

Also, has anyone figured out why we had the OSU lacrosse transfer out to punt in the 4th quarter? I would sorta understand if Williams was hurt, but he was back out the next drive to punt.

edit: punt was the beginning of the 4th

Apparently the backup punter is better at the rugby style punt that Rutgers punter was doing. Dino felt that moment was a good time to attempt a rugby style punt given where we were on the field. It failed horribly.

That is what we call overthinking, it’s like going for that par 5 in 2 with a second shot in the rough, 315 yards away, into the wind, side hill lie. Nothing good is happening, just use your trusty 7 iron and advance the ball
