There is no reason for stability / continuity, change is what is required to right the ship.

If your point is that it would have accelerated the process of moving on, then sure.  That would have been a preferential outcome to JB refusing to step away and holding the program hostage, and helped to avoid the inevitable messy ending that is almost certain to occur now.
