The real ugly side of recruiting-how Seton Hall got Isaiah Whitehead

It's no different on how he got Angel Delgado. He hired Oliver Antigua, who has ties to the Dominican Republic national team. Pretty smart move imo. You want assistant coaches with ties. Sure Morton is Whitehead's coach, but more importantly he is a well known NYC basketball coach. He has connections all throughout the city, and obviously the Hall intends to target NYC for recruits. The move getting Morton, and Antigua is smart. He needed to find a way to give SH a buzz and he has done that. I know if I was a fan of the program I would be thrilled. It's no different then Willie Taggert of USF hiring well known Miami HS football coach Telly Lockette in order to strengthen their recruiting ties in Miami. it happens all the time

Like I sad all along on this kid's recruitment, he was looking for a hand out along with his possee. If UK had come calling he would have jumped in a heartbeat since we know their lovely track record. I'm so glad he never came to SU as his priority was $$$ and how to get to the NBA the quickest.

Kevin Willard is going to be his surrogate.

Just like Cremins was to Marbury...for one year. I still remember that pathetic press conference with all the tears...wah, wah...Coach Cremins was there for me and will be my father figure, wah, wah (...oh, and there's the hand outs to the family too...) I feel so blessed...wah wah.

Yea that was freaking pathetic. I remember it well.

So how does Lincoln HS handle the fact that they've got a lame duck head coach for a season? And who does Willard fire to make room for Morton?

You might have just answered your question. :)
Maybe they will give the Lincoln job to the guy SHU fires. Just about as sensible as everything else that went down the past few days.
:rolling:

What I don't understand is why is the player letting his coach hook his wagon up to the kid's career? What if the kid was offered by Duke and really wanted to play there? The coach isn't going to tell him, "You can't go to Duke because I want to follow you to an NYC-area coaching job." Can he?

Hiring a recruit's relative or high school/AAU coach to obtain a commitment is really no different than offering a cash bribe. That the NCAA allows this corrupt behavior by member schools just demonstrates again what a morally bankrupt organization it is. I'd love to hear Emmert defend this practice. In fact I think the media should make him state publicly why this practice is allowed.

This stuff has happened a lot over the years but what it amazing is that they never wanted to go to Seton Hall IMO. They used the Seton Hall Job offer right up until the end to sway Lavin to match and couldn't pull it off. It was basically a bidding war put on by Morton to further his career. Why do kids and parents go along with this is my question?

Lower level competition from his teammates and opponents will make him look better by comparison.
It’s like the girl who is maybe a 7 or 8 whose girlfriends are all 3 or 4’s so that by comparison she looks like a 9 or 10
Tangential - have you ever noticed that you'll meet a pack of 8s and 9s, and for some reason they roll with a 4? What's up with that?

Its because they want to feel like good people. They think that 4 is a great girl and want the best for her. . . . . . . . . Hit on the 4 to bag one of the 8 or 9's. They can't help it they are used to having all the attention and apparently you are a man who is really looking at who a woman is, awwwwwwwww. Shhhhhhhh

Deep thoughts.^^^

The entire deal is absolutely sickening. Gary Parrish has the audacity to state that people who think negatively about the "deal" are "idiots". All parties involved in the whole deal have no moral compass whatsoever. It's essentially a kickback, or bribe, or payoff, dressed up to fit within the "NCAA Rules". Karma will deal these moral heathens a huge dose of payback. I don't wish ill toward anyone but it's pretty hard not to with the players in this nauseating caper.

I am so happy to have Kaleb Joseph now and thank the Lord that we won't have to deal with the dramatic insanity that WhiteBread would have poisoned the program with for a season or 2.
