This morning I got an email from a friend who was in a foundry asking for help identifying a miniature statue. The clues I was given, were the player is crouched over a football pointing forward and has the number 50 on his uniform. A search of Hall of Fame centers turned up one who wore the number fifty, it was Jim Otto early in his NFL career. He later changed his uniform number to the more famous double zero. My friend then emailed back and said the mystery was solved and that the mini was of the Rimington Award which is given annually to the best center in America. Which brings me to this, in August Macky MacPherson was one of 44 players named to the watch list. Forty-four why does that number keep coming up in association with all things Syracuse? Who here would have guessed five years ago that the grandson of our great coach Dick MacPherson would be a nominee? On Monday the final cut was announced, Macky didn't make it. I think we now all pretty much agree he has been a valuable Orangeman over his four year career. It's my guess that young Mac will be recognized for his fine play and leadership and be given an important parting gift by the football program, he deserves it. I don't think it would surprise any of us to see him, one day, roaming the sidelines in a coaching capacity.
