Here is SU’s record in the round of 32 in the JB Era:

We beat Tennessee 93-88 in OT. Louis and Bouie beat Ernie and Bernie 1-0

We lose 86-87 to Western Kentucky when the refs waved off Marty Byrnes’ tying basket 1-1

We beat Connecticut 89-81, a year before there was a Big East. 2-1

We beat Villanova, 97-83, a year before they joined the Big East. 3-1

We lost to Ohio State, a team we’d beaten during the regular season, 74-79 and couldn’t play in the Eastern Regional at the Dome. 3-2

We beat Virginia Commonwealth 78-63. Shaka Smart was 7 years old. 4-2

We lost to Georgia Tech 53-70, 4-3

We lost to another team we’d beaten during the regular season, Navy 85-97 in the Dome. 4-4

We got revenge on western Kentucky in the Dome in the game that wouldn’t end, thanks to WK coach Murray Arnold, who ordered his team to foul on every possession down the stretch, 104-86. 5-4

We lost to Rhode Island 94-97. Sherman Douglas was so sick with the flu he’s aly flat on the floor during time-outs. 5-5

We beat Colorado State, 65-50. Take that, Mike Tirico! 6-5

Another revenge game. We beat Virginia 63-61. 7-5

We lost to Massachusetts 71-77 in OT. The refs apologized for blowing a key out-of-bounds call a week later. Thanks. 7-6

We beat Tony Bennett’s father Dick, coach of Wisconsin-Green Bay 64-59. 8-6

We lost to Arkansas 94-96 in OT. What a way for Lawrence Moten to go out! 8-7

We beat Drexel 69-58. Anybody remember this one? 9-7

We beat New Mexico 56-46. Another one that’s hard to remember. 10-7

Preston Shumpert buries Kentucky 52-50. 11-7

The one Kansas prefers to remember 58-87. 11-8

Oklahoma State was 10-27 and we were going home early. Instead we doubled them up the rest of the way 58-29 to win 68-56 and wound up cutting down the nets in New Orleans. 12-8

We won a battle of the last two national champions over Maryland, 72-70. 13-8

We beat Arizona State 78-67. James Hardin didn’t look so hot. 14-8

We bombed Gonzaga 87-65 with three pointers. Who needs AO? 15-8

We lost to Marquette 62-66. Over-and- back? 15-9

We crushed Colonel Quaritch…err Frank Martin, 75-59. 16-9

We handled California 66-60 in a game that wasn’t really that close. 17-9

That’s 17-9 with an average score of 75-64. Since 1996, the record is 9-2, with an average score of 68-62. There have been some tough games, (several got closer at the end than they needed to be) but we are pretty good at getting to the second weekend.
