The earliest 'media guide' , (they called it the yearbook in those days), I have for SU football is the one for the 1967 seaosn, which has game informaiton fo all the games form the 1966 season. On November 12, 1966 in Archbold Stadium we took on Flrida State for the very first time. They were haivng their first real run of success in that era under Coach Bill Peterson: http://www.jhowell.net/cf/scores/FloridaState.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Peterson They were famous for their passing game in an era when most good teams, including Syracuse emphasized the run. Floyd Little scored two first quarter touchdowns on 24 yard runs to give SU a 14-0 lead. Tony Kyasky returned a punt 44 yards for a third score in the second period but the PAT was no good. (We got our first soccer-style placekicker, George Jakowenko in 1068- before that any kick was an adventure.) The Noles scored on a pass play later in the quarter. (The summary is clearly wrong here: it says that State passed for a conversion and successfully kicked them after that. But that would have given them 22 points. The line score says they scored 6 points in the second quarter and 14 in the fourth quarter. But that's only 20 points. Yet they wound up with 21.) In the third period Larry Csonka scored form a yard out and then we actually got a 31 yard field goal from our kicker, Alex Gousseff. State scored on a running play then Floyd broke away for a third 24 yard scoring run. Florida State closed the scoring on a shot pass. My recollection of the game is that Syracuse was deep in State territory at the end but took a knee instead of adding a meaningless score. The final was Syracuse 37 Florida State 21. Floyd Little had 193 yards on 20 carries and those three 24 yard TD runs. That's the best game a Syracuse running back has had against Florida State.
