In the last decade of SU FB we are 48-83. That is probably bottom 10 in the P5. People are tired of losing. Consistent losing does not breed patience unless people have gone on to acceptance.

99% of people who want change want it because they want to win game not because they want to be miserable or have an agenda against anybody. I hope people can realize this. I understand repetition can be annoying but realize frustration means caring and if people are going to continue caring after 48-83 it is good. I would take complaining over apathy.

You are lucky. I can probably remember half of those games like nothing. If you can wipe them I won't reference any of them just so it can remain that way.

I just feel like we have given back all positive from the Marrone era and the past two years we have continued to slide back into the abyss. We all knew that after 2012 this thing was still so fragile, we needed to solidify it with not great seasons but solid seasons, 2013 was fine, not great we had some really bad losses but finished strong, that's all been lost past 2 years and we continue to slide, one more year like this and we could just be buried again. Lets get the thing moving back in the right direction

i have 40 years of practice forgetting about terrible teams. when your formative years are spent watching joe ferguson, you get good at it

Agreed. And you know I've come over to your side.

My main contention with the way we think about coaches be it Shafer or the next guy - is back loading the last decade of frustration on to them. Fair evaluation looks just at their years, with a slight nod back to recruiting (coaches always inherit players from previous years).

That's the space a new coach will need to be successful.

i don't think this is abyss. abyss is when you're so bad that it's newsworthy. we're bad enough to be a totally irrelevant afterthought. which was something gerg aspired to be

Here is the cliffnotes of that Era you have blocked out.

It's not fair, but it is what it is. FWIW, I think a coach that gives us two consecutive years of fun, not-white knuckle football will wipe away all the anxiety pretty fast.

Hey at least Joe made the playoffs a few times.

And we have to remember, SS has only been coach for 3 years. And Coyle hasn't seen any year other than this one. I am/was willing to be patient with SS. I was willing to say that if changes were made to his staff and he accepted someone to help him with clock and game management, I would bring him back. But the Clark situation, the consistent mismanagement of games, and reading about the 5th year kid who he didn't put in for one play, has made me really sour on the guy. I will say one thing, it's not just money that we need.

Amen. There used to be a time when a loss in SU football, basketball, or lacrosse would ruin my entire week. No exaggeration--my week would be ruined. I think I got semi-desensitized around the time Coach P started to lose games at an alarming clip, coupled with the NIT years surrounding 2003. Hell, even the lax team had some stinkbomb years, with some FIRST ROUND NCAA losses mixed in--to say nothing of breaking "THE STREAK."

The 2000s have been generally rough on SU sports. Thank god for 2003--now at least I can die in peace. But even our great years in hoops [2010, 2012] were marred by negative circumstances that derailed those great teams' prospects. Then we had the Fine investigation in 2011. Then the multi-year NCAA investigation, coupled with their arbitrary and capricious handling of the penalties. Starting out 25-0 two years ago, only to go something like 2-6 down the stretch. Those outcomes ruin what should be otherwise tremendously enjoyable years.

On the football side, just when I didn't think it could get worse than a 62-0 loss to virginia tech, we follow that up with the Gerg era, and then a decade of general futility getting back to even a .500 level of play.

So with all due respect, it is a lot more than just the last 10 years that are making people frustrated / impatient. Back in 1998, I wouldn't have wiped my butt with the prospect of having a 7 win team. I'd do anything for that today--just to see the ship get righted. What a difference 16 years can make...

As I walked out of the Dome after the Pitt game and my friends and family wanted to talk about the coach and team all I could say is I am tired of losing. I am tired of getting excited about a team, convincing myself we are going to win this week and change the direction of the program... Turn the corner whatever. It's exhausting... But I will continue to go and continue to cheer these kids on... I just hope there is a plan for the future because the current state of the program is not working.

I don't disagree with anything you said but change is a must. The status quo is not getting it done. We need new blood. I want hope for SU FB and it just gets annoying when people want to attack the messenger and not the message.

We have had an awful decade in FB. I can cut JB some slack he has earned patience. Nobody outside the guy with the awards named after him in 2009 was calling for JB to be gone after back to back NITs. Our board had some insanity but overall it wasn't that bad. We probably have atleast 25% of our fanbase that wants to keep SS. Until the last 2 weeks it was probably 50-50. That is why I said 48-83 is why the Change crowd is wants new blood. It isn't personal it is business.
