Better than Some Like It Hot (possibly the best comedy of all time)? A bold, bold choice, Mr. SWC.

North by Northwest is another of my favorites, if more for the awesome cinematography than for the formulaic and silly plot. And Anatomy of a Murder was groundbreaking.

The 400 Blows is another '59 that is very well regarded and I enjoy.

Most of the epic films of the time are epic bores but Ben-Hur is a legitimately powerful and entertaining film. Charlton Heston's DVD commentary on it is one of the best ever.

I've seen it only twice, couldn't get engaged with it either time. Worth a third, I suppose.
