Taj's fumble and the whiff by our former Groza winner were huge plays. Fumble ended best drive of day and points, if our kicker could have made it. Good chance for early momentum. Same with FG flop at half. We aren't good enough to leave points on the field.
Speaking of Taj, I was on opposite side of field, did he drop the pass on the sideline when we were at the 1 or was it the traditional TD leading him out of bounds pass?

Drop… devito put it right on the money and hit Taj in stride. Taj didn’t even need to extend his arms much. Taj being the best player on O is emblematic of all the problems we have offensivsly… he has a terrible prima-Donna attitude and does very little to back it up. We used to be wide receiver U and now it’s come to this?

I didn't get to see the game but listened to a bunch on the radio and followed the updates syracuse.com. It sounded like we were the better team for much of game but stopped ourselves from scoring a few times with mistakes and gave them opportunities with mistakes.

I thought I saw where we had them stopped one time but a penalty gave them a first down that led to a score. Then the Devito fumble led to another one. Then between Taj fumbling and the drop, that took opportunities away from us.

We were absolutely the superior team if we’re talkin players across the board imo.

Our O was better and played better than theirs. We had some plays that hurt us (penalties, TOs, drops, QB misfires), so we left a bunch of points on the field. The 4th Q was a mess but by then we were in desperation mode. Our D was better and played better than theirs. The issue was STs where we were garbage. It killed us in field position. Our O was deep in our own territory and theirs was on our side of the field.

The refs also played a huge factor. The Taj fumble likely cost us 3-7 points. The BS Mikel foul and Dino flag cost us 7 points. The phantom kick catch interference may have cost us 7 points. If our STs weren't garbage we may have over come that but we shouldn't have to overcome the refs.

It looked like Taj's knee was already down but it rules a fumble on the field and they didn't have the camera angles to overturn it, imo. Could be wrong.

That's why they said the call "stands" rather than is "confirmed".

Turnovers and penalties killed us. Defence kept us in the game. Hopefully they are all healthy. Devito turned the ball over as well after they shanked their fieldgoal (after our shanked punt). Frankly, team was very conservative. Even with that game plan we could have won had we avoided turnovers and capitalized on our chances. Dissapointing loss.

Regarding Taj. I saw open receivers nearby that Devito did not. Taj was always 1.5 covered. If we hit a couple of open receivers then it gives Taj a better chance at being 1 v 1 and he is going to go for a long TD. Devito is not good at progression. Great at the quick drop and fire, but once Rutgers took that away, Taj was double covered.

Taj is a great college wide receiver. Great to have that weapon on our team.

Pass was an absolute gem perfect pass. Taj whiffed that alone should get another wide receiver a look.

His knee was down and anybody with eyeballs and a brain could see it

What bit I heard on the radio made it sound like the refs were bad. I missed the kick catch interference. It sucks to lose a game on a few plays and bad calls when we were by and large the better team, especially against another bad team trying to claw ita way out if the cellar.

the catch interference was bad. you see plays every week where contact happens and they have no call let alone one that has no effect on the play at all..

Devito had 2 good throws all day. Taj caught the one, dropped the other. we were the better team. But we made to many mistakes. 4 turnovers were a killer. We are not good enough to overcome 4 turnovers.

Not sure if they still call it a "halo" penalty, that you have to give the returner ample room to make the catch... the Cuse player did not give him space
Anyway, that sort of thing should not be a 15 yarder

I was talking about this with somebody when I was leaving the Dome.

You took an incredibly poor football team, one who you stifled the whole game, and handed them a win by shooting yourself in the foot for four gosh darn quarters.

you need to make contact or obstruct his path to the ball in college.. other than that there is no space requirement.. since he caught the ball you cant say he really got in his way and he didnt contact him

my issue is the rule is just another dumb one.. If there is no contact then why is it a 15 yd penalty.. you have running/roughing penalties on kicks but only major ones on a play with no contact at all.

again when a lazy ref stands on the wrong side of the play it will look different.. had he moved 2-3 yds to see the call he might actually make the correct call.. you see guys actually make contact and get no call all the time in college.

is the lou groza award based more on points or on accuracy ? is it a case where one bad early game knocks you out of consideration much like the heisman ? regardless we've seen szymt's numbers drop each year since he won as a frosh.

Thanks
Google search , The halo penalty was pretty much eliminated years ago
Thus this could have been a bad call
Possibly the ref making it had a bad angle and thought there was contact or path interference

I think it's based on the opinion of the voters, probably very subjective. The year he won he really did everything right. He was accurate, kicked a ton of kicks, and hit a number of long ones.

The Groza winner whoever they will be will have a few misses.

"Great" college wide receiver's play great. Taj is a lot of things, but "great" is not one of them.
Yeah you guys should watch a team like Bama and see what “great” WRs look like. The kid last year from Bama Devonta wasn’t even the best WR on his team!!
