Not quite the entire story. He signed an NLI to a small Tennessee college back in 2019, got injured right before the season, decided to take a gap year at home in NC to rehab himself. He then decided not to return to that college (that held a scholarship for him) but decided to transfer to a different small college in his home state in NC. Covid then occurred and that college shut down football. The next season (2021) he didn’t return to that NC college that had shut down during Covid the previous year and went to Toledo where he played sparingly his first year. He returned to Toledo the next year (2022)and had an awesome breakout season and then entered the transfer portal committing to UNC leaving in the 2nd semester after Toledo’s season.  It was much more convoluted than many of the narratives. True he didn’t play for 2 seasons but there were NIL’s involved with his previous 3 colleges-  UNC is the 4th college he committed to in his 5 years despite not playing for 2 of the colleges he transferred from. I imagine all 3 of those Colleges were urged to support his attending the 4th college, UNC especially the small NC state school that cancelled their season. He owes a lot of thanks to Toledo for his career trajectory.  Just a very strange, long, and rewarding journey for a very lightly recruited player out of high school.
