Good article on Brent getting assigned the Auburn-Alabama game Saturday night. Brent IMO is the best college football announcer right now and the fact he was sent down to SEC Network for company yes man Chris Fowler was disappointing. Fowler leveraged his free agency into sniping Musberger's job and keeping College Gameday.

Fowler is a mediocre at best play-by-play guy and I would put him behind Musberger, Brad Nessler, Sean McDonough, Joe Tessatore, Dave Pasch and even Gus Johnson on my current PBP list. However, Fowler/Herbie are the ABC/ESPN #1 team.

I hope ESPN comes to their senses moves Brent Musberger up the ESPN chain and maybe not #1 but not put out pasture calling a bunch Kentucky football games on SECN.

Musberger is the last of a dying breed. Him and Keith Jackson were the pinnacle of PBP guys.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, I swear. But I've always detested Musberger. He is so prone to hype very single thing about his games. King of the overstatement.

Don't forget Verne.
Verne should have been in my list.
Honestly Fowler is the worst IMO of any of the upper tier announces from ESPN, FOX, CBS.

1. Brent Musberger
2. Verne Lundquist
3. Brad Nessler
4. Sean McDonough
5. Joe Tessatore
6. Dave Pasch
7. Gus Johnson
8. Bob Wischusen
9. Chris Fowler
10. Mark Jones

It is sad that Fowler gets the premiere game on the ESPN family of networks most weeks.

Brad Nessler is my favorite. I'd put Musberger around 4 or 5. I want to like him, but his exaggeration gets annoying.

I can understand that. Brent loves talking about Ohio State/Notre Dame a lot and his gambling references. I just think the guys oozes big time game. Nessler is solid and if ESPN was going to yank the keys from Musberger he should have gotten them not Chris Fowler.

Really? Love me some Brent. Especially when they cut to the shot of the QB's girlfriend. That was great. His voice is iconic.

Agreed. I haven't liked Brent ever. It's a shame the current generation never got to hear Keith Jackson call a game. By far the gold standard on the national level. Verne is a close 2.

Locally, I still miss Doug Logan and think it's a shame the current generation never got to listen to a Syracuse game with him.

But to each his own, I guess.

Jackson and Musberger called games just had a different feel. Every big game I remember from my childhood, they narrate.

I was a much bigger fan of Jackson, but, Musberger has his moments.

Maybe I'm nostalgic, but, it's disappointing younger generations won't have a mainstay to listen to. IMO there are no truly iconic voices coming up like Michaels, Jackson, Musberger etc.

True Musberger fans have his action figure.

As a student I met Brent at the Big House when SU played Michigan in 1998. He asked me what I thought of the stadium...I told him it was ok but could use a roof. He said in his phony bologna voice then it would be more like home at the Carrier Dome and did his hoky laugh.

Thought for sure he would have referenced it during the broadcast when we were stomping them. I don't think that he did.

Eh, there's a tradeoff. Part of the reason why every big game from your childhood that you remember had those guys is because a lot fewer games were broadcast, they usually were the big games, and with fewer games broadcast there really was only room for a handful of really good announcers.

So now, ok, we don't get as attached to as many announcers, but that's a good trade, because we get to see way more games.

When I listen to a game or watch a game, I don't actually care if they're any good, I just want to feel like I'm hearing that they're having fun doing this. It's a cool job. Not many people get to do it. They should enjoy the fact that they get to watch games courtside for a living and talk about it.

In conclusion, Packer sucks, Gus Johnson rules.

Yeah, I miss Keith Jackson. Him calling a game was like a beloved grandpa telling a story. I can't say I was ever much of a Doug Logan fan. I didn't dislike him, he was just neutral for me.

Never could stand Musberger either. I'm 25, so I don't know too much about the classic anouncers. In general the worst person in sports media to listen to for me is Lou Holth.

i called him as a student when he was staying at the Sheraton. got past the gatekeeper by saying i was Terry O'Neil and i needed to speak to Brent. when he got on and i heard his voice i almost choked it, but managed to get out 'do you think we will beat (i think it was georgetown, but not sure).' he laughed a little, asked how i got through and then said, and ill never forget...'you kids at Syracuse even know who produces the show, great job! good luck, have fun tonight...and we will see you tomorrow at the Carrier Dome!' his voice was rising through the entire last sentence just like on tv,

Fn awesome.

LOVE BRENT MUSBERGER.

I met him at that game as well. He actually strolled through the tail gate area before the game. I remember that he was wearing a cowboy hat. Seemed like a nice guy i truly think he is the best announcer in all of college football
