I’ve decided to include each team’s points “Against Ranked Teams” (ART). See that post for details on how that is computed. After Week 14 Playoff Contenders ALABAMA 12-1 (456-239) ranked 5/4/4 ART +107 FLORIDA STATE 13-0 (481-207) ranked: 4/3/5 ART: +92 GEORGIA 12-1 (499-216) ranked: 6/6/5 ART +170 MICHIGAN 13-0 (477-123) ranked: 1/1/1 ART: +91 OHIO STATE 11-1 (394-132) ranked: 7/7/7 ART: +64 TEXAS 12-1 (470-228) ranked: 3/4/3 ART: +109 WASHINGTON 13-0 (490-307) ranked: 2/2/2 ART: +93 So if you go by a teams record Against Ranked Teams, (as measured here, the four team playoff should be between GEORGIA, ALABAMA, TEXAS AND WASHINGTON, with two undefeated teams, #1 MICHIGAN and FLORIDA STATE being left out. Not happening. But you could make logical arguments for several groups of 4 teams. It’s a fitting year to send the 4 team playoff system into history: one that produces chaos.
