[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 1570446, member: 289"] - It had been a long time since our last football victory, (70 days). I’d forgotten what it felt like. - I’m really glad Scott Shafer left with a win. It was a great scene at the Dome and a really emotional finale and press conference. I believe he created a foundation here that hopefully will lead to success for his successor. I hope Shafe will have success wherever he goes and continue rooting for the Orange. - As the game went down the stretch and we couldn’t shake them, I couldn’t help but recall the games that got away this season. Then I looked at BC’s results: losses of 7-9, 0-3, 14-17 and 16-19 and I imagined what the BC players and fans were feeling. Of course, we won 20-17. - We’ve been a good team at home: 4-3 with three close losses. The problems, as is often the case with a young team, were on the road. - If we’d kicked another field goal against Louisville, this would have bene the third Syracuse team in history to score at least 20 points in each regular season game. The others? 1959 and 1987. - We rushed for 153 yards on a team averaging giving up only 76 yards and it matter: with Mahoney misfiring so much, running the ball was our primary means of setting up the scores w e got, which proved to be enough. Because of the running game and a couple of improvisations by Mahoney, we had 17 first downs to 9 and possessed the ball for 9 more minutes than the Eagles. - Steve Ismael had 4 catches for 44 yards and a score. Not spectacular but I think the other three catches were all for first downs. - The versatile Erv Phillips gained 73 yards on 9 carries and caught 5 passes for 21 yards, one for a TD and filled in for Brisley Estime as the punt returner, although he concentrated there on making sure we had possession of the ball, which ina game like this was important. Imagine when he has another year of seasoning and fully develops his skills as a pass receiver as well as a runner. - Actually, there were freshmen and sophomores all over the field that will someday be part of a good team: Phillips, Fredericks, Strickland, Mahoney, Conway, McGloster, Murphy, Franklin, Cordy, Hudson, Dowells, Whitner, Scissom, Clark, Slayton, Samuels, along with the injured Dungey and Williams. 4-8 and that’s all there is LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!
