- We now have 16 wins. Since our season will end after 31 games, we have assured our 45th straight winning season, the longest streak in the country. UCLA holds the all-time record with 54 straight. We’ve still got a shot at that, no matter what happens down the stretch. How many of you remember the last time we didn’t have a winning season?

- The Eagles were determined to take Rakeem Christmas out of the game and they nearly did it. Rak was very frustrated but in the second half started passing the ball effectively to his teammates, (but got credited with only 2 assists, which is a joke). Once upon a time the center was called the “pivot” because the offense ran through him. How many of you remember that?

- Four guys in double figures and none of them are named after a holiday.

- Rak’s teammates had to pick up the slack and boy, did they. Mike Gbinije had probably his best game with 21 points on 8 for 11 shooting, including two treys and a spectacular dunk. He also had 7 rebounds 4 assists and 4 steals.

- Trevor Cooney didn’t have a great shooting night and seems to have lost his way on defesne but he did score 15 points- and we won by 14.

- Kaleb Joseph looked like a totally different player, driving aggressively to the basket and making all seven of his shots including two rim-rattling dunks, one with both hands. Matt Park and Jimmy Satalin were comparing him to Jonny Flynn. I knew there must be another player in there.

- And we had a BJ Johnson sighting, largely because BJ had a basket sighting. I always thought his problems were fixable because he always seemed to miss the same way, long and to the right, (unlike Ron Patterson, who is all over the place). BJ scored 12 points on 4 three pointers. He also had 4 rebound and a couple of blocks.

- If he and Kaleb could keep this up, that will be a game changer. We see young players struggle. We see the coach yell at them. We decide they are “a bust” and are boing “recruited over” and should transfer to make way for other players. But there is a reason why they were recruited here. Rakeem Christmas and Michael Gbinije were not always the players they are now. These are college players. Sometimes we need to remember that and show a little more patience.

16-8, (7-4) with 7 more to go
