- It’s finally over.

- Despite the similarity of the score, this was not the Pitt game, where we were not competitive in any phase. The defense played very well today, holding BC to 303 yards, despite the fact that we punted 9 times and BC controlled the ball for 38:17 of the 60 minutes.

- Tyler Murphy came in having rushed for 1,059 yards at 6.7 per carry. We held him to a season low 20 yards on 11 carries.

- I’d like to put in a word for Prince-Tyson Gulley. I kept hearing this year that he wasn’t good enough to be a feature back, the pros don’t like him, that Erv Phillips should be starting in his place, etc. etc. This guys has served Syracuse well in his career here, (remember his 212 yard MVP performance vs. West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl?). This year he carried the ball 128 times for 610 yards, an average of 4.8 yards per carry. Erv Phillips has carried the ball 46 times for 193 yards, which is 4.2 yards per carry. You don’t have to do the math. Just read it.

- Speaking of that Pinstripe Bowl, it came a year after Saint Doug had lost his last 5 games to finish 5-7. If Shafe comes back to go 8-5 next year, he’ll keep his job.

- And a chunk of the best players on this team are Shafer’s recruits, with a class coming in that should bring more of them. If we can just get by this, the future should be bright.

- I’ve survived 1973-74 when we went 2-9 twice in a row, 1976 and 1978 when we went 3-8, 1982 when we went 2-9, 1986 when we started 0-4, 2002 when we started 1-6, the G-Rob era when we went 10-37 and 2011 when we went from 5-2 to 5-7. This, too, shall pass.

3-9 and, as Chris Gedney said, “It is what it is.”

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!

Kudos to you for finding an upside to that mess of a game today

Sometimes it's heavy lifting.

fwiw pinstripe bowl is nothing more than an also ran bowl which generates nothing more than $ and a few extra practices. nobody cares.

stop, i am as down on the season as you are, but both our pinstripe bowls were covered pretty well (KState saluting pensalty, and WestVA snow game). Its one of the better tier II bowls. Dont sell it short.

Not true. We cared, our players cared, the NFL cared when Marrone abused Geno Smith in the snow.

I cared. I haven't had more fun in my life than I did at Yankee Stadium watching PTG run wild while Geno Smith ran backwards to get safetied.

That was an amazing experience. It mattered to us, and don't you dare belittle that.

If you want to say its a weak-sauce bowl that didn't exist 20 years ago, fine. If you want say it didn't matter nationally fine, if you want to say it didn't change perception of the program, fine, if you wanna say it didn't matter to you, fine.

But don't you dare pretend it didn't matter to anybody, not even the players on that team. Because I'm here to tell you it most certainly did matter.

That is like saying nobody cares when our b-ball team beats another cupcake...

Nobody cares... But Syracuse fans do and thats all that matters really. I was euphoric when we trounced wv ... Again

hey that's my opinion. trivial bowl game.revenue generator. won't see ben affleck starring in pinstripe pride. won't be remembered.

(edit. other than the saluting penalty.)

The bowls suck. Plain and simple. The system sucks and renders all bowls aside from the last one meaningless.

not saying they suck per se. (entertaining for local fans). but i could lay down the names of 10 other minor bowls 2013 easily and no one on this board (sans google) would be able to tell me who played in them . why? becuz they're meaningless. $ and practice time.

But not meaningless for the particular teams fanbase

i saw what i saw. you can stand at the podium and blame injuries. which is what i heard a lot of. but incompetence bleeds thru the bleach.

Which doesn't mean that he'd get fired after a bowl win.

8-5, you are counting a bowl win, will be tough with FL st, Clemson, Louisville and LSU for four losses? Scheduling, opponents and week two bye don' t help

The players and most fans disagree with you. A win over a rival and/or quality opponent to end the season is always a good thing.

then win a couple more games regular season and make it count for something. nobody cares about the nobody bowl.

upside to reiterate. this season is over.
