- It’s finally over.
- Despite the similarity of the score, this was not the Pitt game, where we were not competitive in any phase. The defense played very well today, holding BC to 303 yards, despite the fact that we punted 9 times and BC controlled the ball for 38:17 of the 60 minutes.
- Tyler Murphy came in having rushed for 1,059 yards at 6.7 per carry. We held him to a season low 20 yards on 11 carries.
- I’d like to put in a word for Prince-Tyson Gulley. I kept hearing this year that he wasn’t good enough to be a feature back, the pros don’t like him, that Erv Phillips should be starting in his place, etc. etc. This guys has served Syracuse well in his career here, (remember his 212 yard MVP performance vs. West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl?). This year he carried the ball 128 times for 610 yards, an average of 4.8 yards per carry. Erv Phillips has carried the ball 46 times for 193 yards, which is 4.2 yards per carry. You don’t have to do the math. Just read it.
- Speaking of that Pinstripe Bowl, it came a year after Saint Doug had lost his last 5 games to finish 5-7. If Shafe comes back to go 8-5 next year, he’ll keep his job.
- And a chunk of the best players on this team are Shafer’s recruits, with a class coming in that should bring more of them. If we can just get by this, the future should be bright.
- I’ve survived 1973-74 when we went 2-9 twice in a row, 1976 and 1978 when we went 3-8, 1982 when we went 2-9, 1986 when we started 0-4, 2002 when we started 1-6, the G-Rob era when we went 10-37 and 2011 when we went from 5-2 to 5-7. This, too, shall pass.
3-9 and, as Chris Gedney said, “It is what it is.”
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!
