- Words cannot describe how bad we looked in the first five minutes of the first half- or how good we looked the rest of the half, when we went on a 33-8 run. We expanded the zone to take away their perimeter game, (and they had nothing else). It’s a myth that we have only one defensive option. Our zone is like an amoeba- it can take whatever shape we need it to. Boeheim’s anger over Tyler Roberson not covering a guy they’d talked about for days shows it can be adjusted to meet a particular threat.
- Offensively, we moved the ball better than we have all year. Silent G, who had been too silent at Clemson, dominated the game. Kaleb Joseph penetrated well. He didn’t shoot well, because of his tendency to toss up circus shots. But he got to the line and made 9 of 11 free throws Towards the end of the half, Trevor Cooney finally got untracked with a three and a dandy follow shot at the buzzer.
- Cooney started to help out with the rebounding, pulling down 5 of them. He’s got the size, strength and hops to help us there.
- Chinoso Obokoh got to play 16 minutes in this game and, in the first half at least, we actually extended the lead with him in there. This was the perfect team for him. Boston College had no inside game and 29 of their 51 shots (57%) were treys. They only made 6 of their 22 shots inside the arc, not because our defense was crushing them but because they all seemed to go to the Kaleb Joseph school of dipsy-doodle shots.
