- I was 15 years old in 1968 and listened to that previous trip to Berkeley where our 10th rated team committed 9 turnovers and lost 0-43 with tears in my eyes. I have a theory that we are all the people we have ever been and that certain things can transport us back to the person we were at specific times in your life for a brief time. This 15 year old really appreciated watching Syracuse beat California in their own place, even after all these years.
- We had a 50% chance to go 1-1 today, a 25% chance to go 0-2 and a 25% chance to go 2-0. We went 2-0.
- Cal was supposed to be a formidable team but for most of the game they didn’t look like it. I’m going to credit Syracuse with that. It was fun to be in control almost all the way – and then shut the door.
- Our oft-criticized offensive line held up very well, thank you. LeQuint Allen rushed for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kyle McCord three for 300+ yards for the 9th time in 10 games. He threw 46 passes and was sacked just once.
- We went at them with a 4 man defensive line, (where was that against BC?) and plenty of defensive pressure. We had 4 sacks, 8 TFLs, (Cal had 3), and intercepted two passes, both in the first quarter and both setting up SU scores to get us off to a good start.
- We got off two punts, 3 extra points and 4 field goals without incident and all were good. It was the Bears that missed a field goal. We also grabbed their onsides kick. It’s wonderful to win special teams.
- Big Oronde Gadsden and Trebor Pena both had big games, combining for 19 catches for 106 yards. Pena also took 3 pitches for another 22 yards.
- Justin Barron had another big game with 10 tackles and Marlowe Wax had 6 along with an interception. Davien Kerr made a diving catch on the other interception. Fadil Diggs had only 2 tackles but both were TFLs and one a sack. ON another play he was seen blanketing a receiver well downfield. Dude is 6-5, 260.
- 9-3 is possible and that means 10-3 is, too.
7-3 with 4+ to go
LET’S GO ORANGE !!!!
