- We won another good game, the sort we can expect in the conference and in March. And this game was old-fashioned race-horse basketball. No milking the clock, no wrestling matches in the paint. Players could show what they can do. 92-81 used to be a common score in Syracuse basketball games, children. Back in the day…
- Cal may have been missing Solomon but this game was won in the backcourt. T and T totaled an amazing 51 points on 16 for 23 shooting, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and even a block.
- Jerami Grant also put on a show with 19 points, (and some MONSTER DUNKS), 8 rebounds and 3 assists. All-American stuff.
- We were a light’s out 23 of 24 from the free throw line after being 22 for 27 the night before. JB is a free throw guru! (We’ve been perfect three times, 6 for 6 vs. Miami of Ohio in 1997, 12 for 12 vs. Montana State in 1996 and 17 for 17 vs. Duquesne in 1983 but the most similar game to this was 26 for 27 vs. St. John’s in 1994).
- That stretch in the second half when we went from 58-57 to 71-59 to take control of a back and forth game, was the first time this season we’ve really looked like a top ten team. Frankly, this field is good but I haven’t really seen an Elite 8 type of team and if we aspire to that level we should be beating these teams by solid margins.
