- We again took a while to get the offense going. The good news is that we already had the lead when we did it – and against a better team than the directional opponents we played in the exhibitions. - We seem to be a second half team: 103-63 in the exhibitions, 44-23 in this game. - Our defensive numbers were great: Cornell shot 25%, 15% from the arc and had 15 turnovers, 12 of them Syracuse steals. We only had 6 blocks but if they are shooting like that, why bother? - We dominated the boards 54-36. Yes, we should have because we are taller. But there’s been a lot of early season games where we should have dominated on the boards but didn’t. We out-rebounded SNH by 13 and SCS by 10. - Jimmy Satalin said he’s “falling in love with” Bourama Sidibe. I don’t blame him: 19 minutes 7 points on 3 for 3 shooting, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals and everything done as smoothly as can be. To use a JB term, “He understands the game”. - Oshae Brissett had a poor game, (3 for 13 from the field) and still has a double-double: 11 points, 10 rebounds. - Marek Dolezaj not only showed his usual smarts, long arms and hustle but he scored 8 points, including a 3 pointer. - Those last three guys are all freshman. The big question about this team was: we are so depended on freshmen. Will they all be ready to contribute immediately? They are. Even Howard Washington had 2 assists in 10 minutes. And redshirt freshman Matthew Moyer had 10 rebounds. - Tyus Battle scored 18 points and had 4 rebounds. We expect him to have games like that but it should be noted when he does. - Frank Howard had 9 points, 4 assist and only 1 turnover in 24 minutes. - Geno Thorpe didn’t shoot well (4/13) and still isn’t 100% but he got to the line (4 for 4) and scored 12 points, had 3 steals and 2 assist sin 19 minutes. - Paschal Chukwu stayed close to the basket, blocked 3 shots and had 5 rebounds in 20 minutes. He also committed only 1 foul, a good sign. 1-0 with 30+ to go LET’S GO ORANGE!
