- JB now has NCAA revenge on Western Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Vermont, Marquette and Dayton. Now he gets to add Michigan State to the list. - I hope everybody gets to see this: I was channel-surfing and on TNT they showed a shot from the SU locker room where JB told his team that the keys to the game were that we stopped turning the ball over and that we got the rebounds. When he said that, the whole team started clapping and then had a group hug with Tyler Roberson. - And it wasn’t just Tyler. For once we destroyed someone else on the boards: 48-28! We rebounded 16 of our 34 misses: 47%. They rebounded 10 of their 42 misses, (24%. Roberson led the way with 18 boards but Gbinije had 7, Lydon had 7, Richardson and Coleman had 4, Cooney 3 even Howard 2. Possession is 9/10ths of the law - and basketball. - We had five guys in double figures led by Malachi Richardson with 21, (SU had plenty of R & R today, which gave us some R & R). Tyler Lydon, who got to 14 with some late free throws, Trevor Cooney with 13 and Gbinije, (who has hit double figures in every game this year) and Roberson, (who got his seventh double-double). - Dayton obviously decided to take Gbinije out of the game. He was double-tamed the whole time and was only 3 for 11. But he responded by thing the boards for those 7 rebounds and passed off for 4 assists. - Trevor Cooney opened the game by missing a trey and everyone groaned. But he did a couple of uncharacteristic things. He didn’t just jack up treys trying to finally make one. He used the spacing he creates to drive to the basket and score. He did hit a couple of threes by giving them a little extra push, (many of his misses are short). He wound up with those 13 points and didn’t hurt the team with his misses. He also kept the ball moving and had a couple of good passes. - Our defense was excellent. We had two guys on whoever had the ball outside and held our ground when they got it inside. At times it looked like the kind of defense we played to get to the Final Four in 2013. - Once we started hitting threes and stopped turning the ball over. , the offense looked great as well. The spacing was great. We faltered a bit when we got the big lead and started milking clock but then we drove to the basket and closed it out at the foul line with a 20 for 23 performance. - If we’d played this way two years ago, we’d have blown them out then, too. We also would have beaten most of the teams we’ve lost to over the years in the tournament. 20-13 (9-10) with 1+ to go… LET’S GO ORANGE!
