- Offensively, it was the Georgia Tech game all over again: Elijah Hughes was red-hot in the first half, scoring 18 points and seemingly able to hit form everywhere. In the second half Buddy Boeheim took over, scoring all of his 25 points, including 7 three pointers. Elijah only scored 2 second half points as the defense closed in him. But he had 9 assists, most of them to Buddy in the second half. - Marek Dolezaj, when not being fouled with no whistle or being whistled for fouls he didn’t commit, had quite a first half, too, playing a great two man game with Elijah. He scored 13 points on 6 for 9 shooting, led the team with 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists. He’s finally thrown off the shackles of the ‘newcomer’ who defers to veteran players. He’s realized that he is the veteran now and we are seeing the full width and breadth of his talents. - I was fascinated by the confrontation between Georgetown’s Mac McClung and our own Joe Girard. They are close to the same size and were high school phenoms of a different sort. McClung, (who facially reminds me of Jimmy Cagney) was an athletic dunker. Joe’s game was more horizontal but he was a tremendous jump shooter and a good dribbler. Both were fancy passers. McClung has added a good three point shot to his arsenal and he’s a year ahead of Joe but neither lacks any confidence in his game. McClung led Georgetown with 26 , 21 in the first half, to go with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Joe scored 16 points, (10 in the second half), also had 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. If we keep playing the Hoyas these two guys will see a lot of each other. - Judging from his press conference Jim Boeheim hasn’t given up on this season. Maybe we shouldn’t, either. 5-5 with 21+ to be done LET’S GO ORANGE!
