- We won! We grabbed a lead and held onto it until the clock read 0:00, something we hadn’t done when we took late leads in other games.
- We did this after learning that one our best players couldn’t play – just after we’d gotten back one of our best players. I posted that this season is stillborn when I heard that. But teams facing adversity either come together or come apart and, amazingly, this frustrating team came together.
- Then we heard that Freeman was “day-to-day”, meaning that he’s likely to going to be out for the long stretch JJ Starling was out.
- One of the reasons we won was that Starling, after losing momentum in the FSU game, came on strong at the end and took control of the game, something we lacked while he was out. Now we have a good chance to win these close games because we have a genuine star.
- It’s possible that, with the experienced Davis and Taylor seeing more time, we’re a better defensive team without Freeman. But then he’ll be back soon.
- People like to rub Eddie Lampkin but he was a a beast tonight with 10 points, 12 rebounds 2 assists and even two blocks.
- Lucas Taylor had 10 points and 5 rebounds while Jayre Davis had 8 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal.
- Chris Bell cooled off as the game progressed but scored 13 points and had 3 rebounds. Four of his five baskets were inside the arc.
- Petar Majstorovic didn’t foul out, which is good news. He had 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in just 13 minutes.
- We out-rebounded the Jackets 48-39, including 13 offensive rebounds yet we only gave up fast break points.
- The best thing was we played hard for 40 minutes and Red looked relaxed in the presser. This season can’t have been good for his health.

Net Points
This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed).
