Every year, JB plays everybody in the early season, (depending on the opponent), sees who is likely to make a positive contribution and who his best combinations are and goes with those players once the conference season starts. The number of players who pass that test varies from season to season and so the number of guys who made the above list varied from season to season.  Injuries can cut down the rotation and we’ve had some bad luck with those in recent seasons, leading to the illusion that JB prepares to play with only 6-7 guys vs. 8-9 guys. But his average over those 37 years is actually 8 guys.

I don’t think anybody on this team will play themselves out of the rotation. Washington is a freshman with three veteran guards ahead of him so we might not see a lot of him but I certainly wouldn’t groan to see him come into the game. And I expect Moyer to get significant playing time this year.
