- It was said at a couple of different points in the chatroom that the latest misfortune our team suffered would be the one that would cause them to quit. They never did. There were a lot of plays where they didn’t play well but they never quit. And we shouldn’t quit on them. Bowl or no bowl – let’s get out to the Dome next week and root them home to beat Wake Forest. 5-7 is better than 4-8. Way better.
- This game became the predicted shoot-out in the second half, once we got out of our own way. We out-gained them 318-266 in that half and were out-scored 24-28. It was really that first quarter that did us in.
- Someone in the chatroom described Moe Neal as a “3 yards up the middle runner”. In this game he ran the ball for 163 yards, an average of 8.2 yards per carry. For the season he now has 748 yards in 150 carries, (5.0). For his career he has 2,462 yards in 465 carries (5.3). He averaged 5.3 as a freshman, 5.3 as a sophomore, 5.6 as a junior and 5.0 so far this year with a mostly lousy offensive line. He is not a “3 yards up the middle runner”.
- In fact, we have quite a group of running backs. Abdul Adams is a good combination of power and speed. He hasn’t had a great year but maybe someday we can put a line in front of him that will allow him to show his talents. Jarveon Howard had a big game against Duke and Jawhar Jordan had a huge game today, running for 35 yards on 7 carries, catching 2 passes for 87 yards, (one was 81 yards on what was more a running play than a passing play) and getting 101 yards on 3 kickoff returns. The future is bright.
4-7 and 2+ to do (if we can get in as a 5-7 team, which appears to be unlikely)
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
