-          Once again, we need to look back to the tenure of the last coach to build this program into something that earned national respect. We beat Nebraska in 1984, the lost 3 games in a row and the enthusiasm that win generated dissipated. But recruits had heard of us. We didn’t got to a bowl game that year but did the next and it allowed Coach Mac to recruit the class that made all the difference. Those guys mostly redshirted in ’86 but took over, (especially in the offensive line) in 1987 and we went undefeated and had 15 winning years in a row. I think something very similar his happening now.
