- The defense played well and valiantly until they got tired at the end. We’ve been within range through most of these three losses. We’re just waiting for the 0ffesne to make the plays to get us into the game and win it. Florida State and Clemson may be too much but the defense will give us a chance to win the others.

- Ben Lewis and Jarrod West have gained some separation, at least from their fellow receivers. I love how hard Lewis plays and felt for him when he dropped the TD pass, (after being out of bounds on the first). We have no dynamic playmakers but I’ll settle for a couple of reliable receivers for now.

- Steve Ismael made a great catch and may develop as a playmaker for us as the season progresses. I have a feeling we’ll see more and more of the younger guys as we go along. They are the future.

- Hopefully our injured players can come back as the season progresses and we can begin to resemble the team we thought we had.

- Let me recommend a real good book to read after next week’s game gets out of hand: 100 Things Syracuse Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die by Scott Pitoniak. I have a paper-back version of it I got at Barnes and Noble. It fits nicely into a coat pocket and tells 100 different stories of Syracuse University sports, covering football, basketball, lacrosse, Olympic sports, everything. Many of the stories I already knew but a lot of them I didn’t. It’s a fun read. A lot more fun than the Florida state game will likely be. (Scott wrote “Color Him Orange”, about Jim Boeheim)

- In 50+ years of following Syracuse football, I’ve seen a lot of ups and downs. There will be more of both to come. Take my word for it: if you stick with the team through the downs, the ups will feel even better.

- One of those downs was the 1984 Rutgers game. Scott discusses it on pages 89-91. We were favored to win by 10 points at home but lost 0-19. Our quarterback Todd Norley fumbled three times and threw two interceptions. A week later he threw the go-ahead touchdown pass to Mike Siano in the win over #1 Nebraska. That’s’ why they play the games.

2-3 with 7+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!

I have a feeling the upside is going to be more difficult to write each week.

Thanks, SWC. I didn't think it was possible after last night's game to produce a hopeful upside that was also credible.

Does f0fesne = screwed up offense? I was thinking it was a esneffo ...

And I got in a plug for Scott's book! ;)

Getting a good night sleep before writing it was a good idea.

Not how it was reported at the time by Park and Gedney. I haven't seen a good replay. Link?
