- The huge news in this game was the play of our centers. Yes, it was against Montana State but we’d played comparable opponents earlier and they’d struggled even against them. Not tonight. Again, it was against an opponent that wasn’t comparable to anyone we’ll play in the ACC but 24 points and 10 rebounds from the center position is, literally, a game-changer for this team. If those guys can produce against better teams, the season will have a very different outlook. - DaJuan Coleman scored 13 points, (one short of a career high) on 5 for 5 shooting and 3 for 3 from the line. That made him 13 for 16 from the line for the season, (81%), after coming into the year hitting 47% of his free throws in his first two seasons. He’s obviously worked hard on his game and tonight he played with aggression and confidence. - Chinoso Obokoh finally got a chance to play serious minutes and responded with 11 points and 6 rebounds. He struggled at times, with a travel, an intercepted handoff form a defensive rebound and a couple of other balls he found elusive. But his teammates kept going to him, making him a part of the offense and he went 5 for 7 from the field. - Michael Gbinije had his normal game: 17 points, (including 3 of the team’s 7 treys), with 5 rebounds 5 assists and 2 steals. Rinse, repeat… - Tyler Lydon had 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, much of it from the forward positon rather than the center positon. - Trevor Cooney had a good game with 4 for 10, including 3 treys for 12 points He also had 5 assists and 3 steals. Tyler Roberson had 8 rebounds. I cite those numbers because if those players could do that consistently, we’d be in better shape. - We gave up a deceiving 43 points in the second half. It was a really good defensive game overall against an overmatched team. The Bobcats shot 36% overall, including 28% from the arc and we had 9 steals and 9 blocks. The visitors had only 17 points in the first half, when the game was still semi competitive. - We played everybody and everybody made contributions. Franklin Howard and Kaleb Joseph had 8 assists between them. 8 assist from the point guard and 23/10 from the center. Just like the old days. - This is what a December 22nd game is supposed to look like for Syracuse. 9-3 with 19+ to go…and only 8 more wins needed to guarantee our 46th consecutive winning season! LET’S GO ORANGE!
