- I had thought that this team was so bad on defense because their players just didn’t have the talent or mobility to play defense, regardless of what defense we used. But tonight this team played really good defense beginning with Red’s time out at the 10:53 make of the first half. Notre Dame had been virtually unopposed on the defensive end and were ahead 8-25 and maybe on their way to 100 points. They got 44 in the last 29 minutes, allowing SU to make a dramatic comeback victory that has the potential to turn this season around. - The make-up of this roster has been criticized but one thing we’ve not heard about is anything about internal dissension. This team has shown the ability to turn around games like the one at Boston College and tonight’s game. They may have their shortcomings but they are together. - Eddie Lampkin had an amazing game. Her got his fourth straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. But he also had 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. This was what Red had in mind when he brought Eddie here. - But the hero of heroes was Kyle Cuffe, who went 10 for 10 from the line while his teammates were 11 for 24. He also played a major in shutting down Markus Burton in the second helf. We don’t come close to winning without either contribution. - Jaquan Carlos had modest numbers but he was the guy who got the comeback going. He hit a three, a two, grabbed two rebounds and had two assists down the stretch of the first half. - Hey! Elijah Moore broke his streak of missing 16 shots in a row. He was still only 1 for 6 from the arc but still managed 8 points and that’s what we won by. - I think Red finally got from his team what he’s wanted to see all year. - When the opposing coach has to be led off the court and we get technicals, that’s a pretty good sign. 9-9 and 15+ to go LET’S GO ORANGE! Net Points This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed). Eddie Lampkin game: 25NP in 32 minutes season: 240NP in 505 minutes = 19.0NP/40m Kyle Cuffe game: 11NP in 21 minutes season: 60NP in 191 minutes = 12.6NP/40m JJ Starling game: 10NP in 34 minutes season: 129NP in 389 minutes = 13.3NP/40m Elijah Moore game: 6NP in 17 minutes season: 68NP in 306 minutes = 8.9NP/40m Jaquan Carlos game: 4NP in 5 minutes season: 92NP in 483 minutes = 7.6NP/40m Lucas Taylor game: 3NP in 18 minutes season: 65NP in 381 minutes = 6.8NP/40m Jyare Davis game: 3NP in 26 minutes season: 172NP in 402 minutes = 17.1NP/40m Petar Majstorovic game: 0NP in 22 minutes season: 43NP in 184 minutes = 9.3NP/40m Chris Bell game: -1NP in 9 minutes season: 104NP in 411 minutes = 10.1NP/40m Naheem McCloud game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 3NP in 12 minutes = 10.0NP/40m Donnie Freeman game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 201NP in 355 minutes = 22.6NP/40m Chance Westry game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: -1NP in 10 minutes = -4.0NP/40m
