[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 3630052, member: 289"] - A valiant effort against a national championship contender. A good way to end a very frustrating season on a mostly positive note and create some optimism for next year. Optimism is the lifeblood of sports and we’d bene feeling pretty anemic. - The most amazing stat was that we ran the ball for 229 yards and had two 100 yard rushers, (Sean Tucker: 24c 113 yards and a 40 yard TD; Cooper Lutz: 6c 102 yards and an 80 yard TD). We were told all week that NOBODY runs the ball on Notre Dame, that all-Americans like Travis Etienne had failed to rush for 100 yards against them. But guys that started the season as our 5th and 6th string backs both ran for 100 yards against them. Tucker wound up with 138 carries for 638 yards, (4.6) and 4 scores. - We gained another 185 yards through the air, including a nifty TD catch by Anthony Queeley who broke a tackle and high-wired his way down the sideline to the pylon. He had 4 catches for 42 yards. Sean Tucker caught two out of the backfield for 46 yards, giving him 159 yards in total offense. Taj Harris followed his 13 catch game vs. NC State with 8 more for 69 yards. He wound up with 58 catches on the year for 733 yards and 5 scores. Queeley had 37/378/2. - Rex Culpepper, a guy whose career seemed to have ended when he contracted cancer a couple of years ago and at one time was switched to tight end, was pressed into service when Tommy DeVito went out and did some positive things. In this game he was 18 for 29 for 185 yards and 1 TD. He wound up with 94/190 (49.5%) for 1,028 yards, 9TDs and 8 int. - We picked off Ian Book after more than 200 passes by him without and interception. We came into the game tied for the national lead in takeovers with 22 - If you asked Clemson or Notre if we are a bad team, I think both of them would say that we aren’t. We lost to them by similar scores but we punched both of them in the nose. - Next year, (depending on who actually comes back), we could suddenly have tremendous depth. We played all kinds of players due to the opt outs and the injuries. We’ll have more recruits and transfers coming in. We should be a totally different team. If we can have something closer to a normal spring and fall practice, that could make a huge difference, as well. - Even this team could have bene better than our 1-10 record. If Tommy DeVito hadn’t bene hurt, not only would we have been more productive but we would have had far fewer turnovers. We surely would have beaten Boston College and North Carolina State but we could have stayed in the Clemson, Wake Forest and Notre Dame games. 1-10 and we are done…until next year! LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
