- Jim Boeheim sounded as relieved by winning this game as he would have been elated by a good performance. He was dismayed that his team couldn’t toss it in the ocean but proud that his team “ground it out”, just like we’re going to have to do in the games to come against better teams than Pitt. We just need to put the ball in the basket more.

- We are still 7 players deep and they are good players. At the beginning of the season Bourama Sidibie seemed like a better player than Paschal Chukwu. Then Bourama got hurt and we had to go with Paschal who progressed very well. Then he had a poor game today and Jim gave Bourama a shot. He responded with an amazing 31 minutes in which he scored 18 points, had 16 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. The center positon has been a void since Rakeem graduated. It’s now a powerhouse.

- Howard Washington played only 11 minutes but hit four key free throws down the stretch and had 2 assists and a steal.

- Tyus Battle held up his end with 14 points, (which count for more in a game like this) including a couple of threes. He also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and steal, perhaps his best floor game of the season.

- Pitt may not amount to much but our defensive stats in the two games are stellar. They scored 100 points in two games while shooting 30% (32 for 105). They had three double-figure scorers in the two games. Other teams will get more that but, unlike last year, we can put up some resistance and have a chance to stay in those games.

15-6 (4-4) with 10+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!

A couple of Upsides in my opinion:

Tops is the closing in on the winning season. Just need 2 more now to hit the key 17 win total. Heading into the season there had been some worry about keeping the streak alive. The odds just improved.

Another big plus is the NCAAT is still in play. SU was considered in before so it must still be considered in. This win looks like it locks up the Wake Forest loss as the worst SU loss this year. I think probably the only SU loss to a team with a losing record. Shouldn't be much of a talking point as a negative, as I think comparatively SU will be faring better than most in that regard.
