- That was one of the best comebacks I’ve seen, considering who we were playing and o0ur history against them. It’s too bad that it didn’t work out in the end but you have to be proud of the guys.
- DaJuan Coleman stayed out of foul trouble and finally got a chance to show what he can do and it was considerable: 11 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. It wasn’t a perfect performance: he continues to flip the ball at the basket when he could dunk it and he continues to let the ball get slapped put of his hands. But he made far more good plays than bad ones and showed the impact he could have on a contest against a tough opponent. He was the biggest reason we held our own on the boards in this game.
- Mike Gbinije is going out with a bang, even if the team is going out with a whimper: 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the loss at Florida State. In this game it was 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Then there was that 34 point senior day game. If we had a better team, he’d be an All-American.
- Frank Howard had that bad turnover but he only had one other and had 5 assists 2 steals and even a blocked shot. He was part of that press that got us back in the game. Boeheim finally decided that our offense works better with a true point guard in there. Now if he could only score.
- Gbinije scored 24 points and Lydon 21 more. Cooney and Roberson added 15 each. Richard scored 13 and Coleman had a double-double with 11 point and 11 rebounds. Unfortunately, Roberson’s and Cooney’s totals were from the first game, Lydon’s from the second and Gbinije’s and Richardson’s from today. But all these guys have proven they could play productively against Pittsburgh. They just need to do it all at once.
- Somehow, I still have the feeling we’ll be in the NCAAs, (counting the play-in games as part of the NCAAs). The same instinct tells me that next year’s team will bring us back to where we belong. I don’t know whether to trust my instincts but I won’t be getting rid of them.
19-13 (9-10) with 1+ to go…
LET’S GO ORANGE!
