- We again avoided a horrendous start, again saving that for the second part of the first half. Fortunately, Pitt was just as bad over that stretch and we were able to lead by a point at the half. At one point we missed 10 shots in a row, but they missed 8 of 9 in the same stretch.

- Eddie Lampkin played out of his mind, pulling down 23 rebounds. He’s one of seven guys who have grabbed 23 rebounds in a game for us but the first since Derrick Coleman, (#44) in 1990, (Dave Bing had 25 in 1966 and Frank Reddout 34 in 1952: they missed a lot of shots in 1952).

- He led us to a 48-31 edge on the boards, which is what Pitt used to do to us, even if there were some critical ones we didn’t get at the end.

- We had 5 guys in double figures: how often were all five of them on the court at the same time? A lot of them got to play more because Starling was in foul trouble.

- Petar Majstorovic was one of those double figure guys! He was 4 for 5 and even made a three.

- Starling didn’t have a great game, but 4 rebounds and 5 assists improved the look of his line. Chris Bell was 4 for 9 on threes and scored 12 points. The rest of his line was all zeros, except for two turnovers.

- We hit 11 threes, 34%. That could have won us some other games.

- Lucas Taylor has again lost his shot, (0 for 4 from three: He started 1 for 13, then went 11 for 19 and he’s now missed 9 in a row: that’s 12 for 41, 29%). But he was 5 for 8 inside the arc. Had 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal.

- Elijah Moore hit a couple of threes and had a couple of assists. The beginning of something?

- We slugged it out on pretty much even terms with a 14-6 team. But we’re still a 9-11 team.

9-11 and 13+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!

Net Points

This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed).

Eddie Lampkin game: 22NP in 35 minutes season: 276NP in 574 minutes = 19.2NP/40m
(Say what you want about Eddie: he’s leading the team in net points and NP per 40 by large margins)
JJ Starling game: 12NP in 26 minutes season: 155NP in 447 minutes = 13.9NP/40m
Petar Majstorovic game: 11NP in 23 minutes season: 56NP in 228 minutes = 9.8NP/40m
Lucas Taylor game: 8NP in 31 minutes season: 77NP in 436 minutes = 7.1NP/40m
Elijah Moore game: 6NP in 16 minutes season: 77NP in 333 minutes = 9.2NP/40m
Jyare Davis game: 3NP in 22 minutes season: 182NP in 449 minutes = 16.2NP/40m
Chris Bell game: 3NP in 24 minutes season: 112NP in 453 minutes = 9.9NP/40m
Jaquan Carlos game: 2NP in 14minutes season: 100NP in 518 minutes = 7.7NP/40m
Kyle Cuffe game: -4NP in 9 minutes season: 62NP in 214 minutes = 11.6NP/40m

Naheem McCloud game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 3NP in 12 minutes = 10.0NP/40m
Donnie Freeman game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 201NP in 355 minutes = 22.6NP/40m
Chance Westry game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: -1NP in 10 minutes = -4.0NP/40m

I've watched a little over half the games and IMHO, this was among one of the better ones. They played hard (most of the time), with energy, more than most games. The defense, while not great (good?) was better. The offense seemed better. I thought Majstorovic played well and going down the road, more playing time. If Freeman comes back, I think there is a lot of hope at least getting to play in the ACCT. More than I had a month ago.

I also wish to say that it's great that SWC is able to provide insight to the games. He is a big reason that I read this form. Thank you so much.
