- In most respects we played well. I thought Pittsburgh would kill us with their two great receivers, Devin Street and Tyler Boyd would killed us. Our strange luck with key players in the other team’s passing attack getting hurt continued as Street went out. But I again spent the game looking at the defensive backfield and we are not letting receivers run open as we were early in the season. We’ve lost a lot of personnel there but our current scheme is very effective.
- He stood up under it but we kept Tom Savage under constant pressure. There were a lot of hurried throws and 7 sacks. Savage will always associate his visits to Syracuse with pain.
- The first drive sure looked easy. Smith rush for 1, Morris rush for 22, Hunt rush for 8, Smith rush for 36TD. That was 67 yards on the ground. I thought we might wind up with 300 again. We wound up with 148.
- Alvin Cornelius, whom observers have been raving about for a couple of years, finally got to play and made a fantastic diving catch of a 42 yard bomb from Hunt, his first career score and Hunt’s first ACC TD pass. There was also a Quinta Funderburke sighting. Get those guys out there!
- We were +2 in turnovers and are now +1 on the season after a bad start.
- We aren’t a bad team against a normal Division 1 opponent. And that’s what we’ll be playing next week. It ain’t over until it’s over.
