- Winning > Losing. I maintain that these are talented players and that some day they will be part of a really good team. That looks far away right not, (it might not even be this year). The best we can hope for in the meantime is to find a way to pull highly imperfect games out and we did that tonight.
- We started 14-2 and ended 17-6, (ignoring the buzzer shot at the end. If you ignore the 43- 60 in between it was a fun night.
- Our defense won the game down the stretch with three shot clock violations down the stretch, two in the last 3 minutes of regulation and one in overtime. We also had 18 takeovers to just 6 turnovers, which partially negated our awful rebounding.
- Say what you want about Joe Girard, but we were never in this game without him. He had 21 of our 34 first half points and wound up with a career high 31. He’s been our leading scorer in 5 of our 6 games, (including exhibitions) and is averaging 21.25ppg in the games that count.
- Judah Mintz disappeared in the middle of the game but scored 16 points at the beginning and end. He also had 4 assists to 1 rebound and almost had a game winning assist at the end of regulation, although we should have passed the ball a couple of times to git it down court more quickly. Judah is the Pearl Washington type who likes to take it all the way himself. Sometimes that comes up short on the clock. Judah, like Allan Griffin, likes to trail fast breaks and snuff them out at the rim. He’s got the hops for it. He’s also got the moves of a Dervish and will leave ankles broken all over the eastern seaboard, alth9ugh the spiders did a pretty job of staying in front of him.
- Jesse Edwards missed much of the first half, not IN foul trouble but trying to avoid it – coming out with 2 fouls. But he was our key man down the stretch and wound up with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks and 2 steals.
- Chris Bell his 3 threes and scored 11 points. The rest was a picket fence: 1 rebound, 1 assists, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 34 minutes.
3-1 with 27+ to go
