- I wanted SU to “win the day”, meaning that the combined scores of the football game and the basketball game would favor the orange. It did 108-97.

- The team came out en fuego, especially Alan Griffin, who was throwing in three pointers like they were lay-ups. Later Joe Girard finally got going. He wound up with 6 treys. It blew the game open. They wound up with 23 and 21 points, respectively. Girard’s outburst should si9lence his critics for the moment. We’ve got a team with several players who can have big games. We don’t need to have them all have big games every time out. 3-4 guys playing well will be enough in most games.

- We had some defenses lapses late in the half but came back strong in the second half, holding Rider to 6 points in the first 11 minutes and shutting off any hope of a come-back.

- We owned the boards, as we should have, 38-24.

- I didn’t think Quincy Guerrier was having a good game but he wound up with 11p/7r/3a anyway. That’s a good sign – it means he was working it all the time, finding ways to make contributions even he had a few awkward plays.

- John Bol Ajak had a beautiful wrap-around pass the Frank Anselem. Who knew he could do that?

- The new guys: Kadary Richmond had 7p/7r/6a. Woody Newton had 9 points, all on treys and 8 rebounds. Frank Anselem had 6P/2R/2s/1B and made 4 of 5 free throws. And they all can play defense…defense..defense….

3-0 with 25+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!

It is always harder to watch a game on tv than to be there in person. Most especially if your team is struggling. For the last 3 years or so, I have rather dreaded watching our games. We haven’t been good, although we have played some fun, good games during that stretch.

I watched the game tonight with a sense of deja vu. It reminded me of something. Oh, yeah! It reminded me of watching our good teams of the past! I know it is uncool and naive to say, “I think our team might be good,” but I think our team might be good!

I look forward to the Rutgers game. I actually don’t dread it. Suck on that, 2020!

I would have much preferred that JG got his 6 treys over 40 minutes instead of 20 (actually less). He ended up 6/12, raising his season % to 33%

Perfectionist!

I really like what I see with defense from Griffin and Kadary for new guys this early in the season. They appear to have an innate knack for adjustments. They are aggressive and active. I think Woody may be great in the zone as well, but it is too early to tell.

Joe is good at shooting. Not so good at running the offense, as he doesn’t penetrate, doesn’t really set up players well, and doesn’t finish a fast break. And then there’s the defense... But he can make shots in volume. I hope that inspires JB to play Kadary at point and let Joe and Buddy primarily split time just hunting shots, while also significantly upgrading half of the backcourt defense. But, a significant drop in sonny’s minutes feels like a big, unrealistic ask.

If he's really a great coach, and is not looking through his "Dad Glasses", he'll know that Buddy has already earned his stripes and proven that he is a top shooter in America.

Now, it's less about your kid's personal records he can pile up in 5 years of eligibility.
It's about you getting off the damn tournament bubble we've been on for the past six years.

It is past time for righting the ship, Jim. Make Buddy play defense, and make him take a rest for at least one 4 minute stretch in each half. Just Do it.

I dunno— didn’t Gmac have a pretty significant 6 threes in 20 minutes? They all count.
