-          Taurean Thompson looked very good before fouled ended his evening with 10 points and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes.

-          This game will make or break this team. Either they will point fingers at each other and the team will come apart or it will come together. Either the last vestige of their confidence will evaporate or their get mad at themselves, start listening to the coaches and play as a team. The last time we got whipped like this against an undistinguished opponent was the DePaul disaster of 2006, (which this greatly resembled). That team came back to win the Big East Tournament a week later.

-          The team that looked so brilliant blowing out an Eastern Michigan that wasn’t supposed to be much worse than St. Johns, (they were #150 in the Sagarin rankings to 138 for the Johnnies) is still in there, somewhere.

-          Driving home, I had no interest in listening to the post-game show. I flipped to a classical music station and they were playing the Nutcracker. It never sounded so beautiful to me. It helped me to realize that basketball is a small part of my life and when it gives me no pleasure I can easily withdraw from it and focus on other things I like, of which there are many. The players and coaches don’t have that privilege. I’m sure they have other interests and I hope they have academic as well as athletic goals. But this is still a huge chunk of their life and it’s essentially their profession, even if they are not yet professionals. They aren’t trying to make our dreams come true. They are trying to make their dreams come true and our job as fans is to root for them to succeed, not to treat them like employees who didn’t do their assigned job. So if you feel bad right now, you might spend some time imagining how they feel.
