- This team has it’s flaws but it also has some remarkable athletes who allow us to overcome those flaws to win games. Kyle McCord may be the best passer and QB in the country. He threw 63 passes and his arm didn’t fall off. He completed 40 of them, (including the first 11) for 355 yards and 3TDs. He ran for 22 more yards and avoided any sacks, despite being pressured the whole game.
- LeQuint Allen is a player we’ll never forget at Syracuse. He sued the university to defend his right and desire to play for us and plays with an iron will on every play. He lacks break away speed and isn’t huge but he ran for 71 tough yards on 19 carries and scored 2 running TDs including the clincher. He is versatile enough to catch 9 catches for 58 yards and 2 more scores. He scored 4 of our 6 touchdowns. He also swiped the ball from a defender who had nothing but green in from of him and stepped into the end zone for one of those touchdowns
- Oronde Gadsden suddenly found himself in single coverage and caught 10 catches for 142 yards. That’s what we expected from him.
- And Fadil Diggs, a week after no tackles had 6 of them including 2 sacks and 2TFLs. He led the charge to hold UNLV to a field goal at the beginning of overtime. That’s what we need from him.
- Yasim Willis finally got a chance to show what he can do, pounded the Rebels for 62 yards on 8 carries, (7.8) and a 26 yard touchdown burst after an interception that gave us a 10 point lead.
- We ran 96 plays to 50, had the ball, (in regulation), for 39.38 to 20.22 minutes. We gained 492 yards to 354. We had 34 first downs to 20. We were 14 for 21 on third and fourth down. UNLV was 3 for 7. Take away the two bad punt plays and we have a comfortable road win over a ranked team, the second ranked team we’ve beaten this year. Of course, they won’t be ranked any more. But maybe we will be.
