- It’s Big, Bad November and we are 1-0, baby!

- Triplets:

McNabb to Brominski (1996)

50-42 in OT (2002)

SYRACUSE VS VIRGINIA TECH, 2002 FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHTS

LeQuint Allen is Superman!

Virginia Tech vs. Syracuse Condensed Game | 2024 ACC Football

- Paul Pasqualoni’s goal in each game was 200 yards rushing + 200 yards passing. That’s not possible for this team, (at least as an average). We’re a passing team. But you have to be able to run the ball when you need to. Our formula is more 100 yards rushing + 300 yards passing. We are averaging 122 yards rushing in our wins and 16 yards rushing in our losses. We got 130 in this one.

- The guy who got those yards is LeQuint Allen, the toughest most determined most DART player on the team. He’s also developed an airborne move to score at the goal line which brings back memories, (if you have them) of Sam ‘Bam’ Cunningham. The reason why Fran is willing to go to OT rather than try for two after scoring these last minute touchdowns is he has LeQuint Allen, the King of Overtime. He had 121 yards in 21 carried, 5 catches for 36 yards and 3TDs.

- Welcome Justis Ross-Simmons. Until today he was just a name in the receiver’s room, another Fran Brown import. This one hadn’t caught a pass yet. Battling a hamstring injury all year, he asked the coach if maybe he should redshirt. He told him to get ready to play today. He made four catches for 88 yards and two scores, one on an amazing 55 yard play. Justus caught a sideline pass, muscled his way past a defender and loped down the sideline. If healthy, he would have scored standing up but with the hammy, he was caught but lunged for the goal line and just managed to stick the ball across the plane of the goal line before his prone body hit the turf. Da-Duh Duh…Da-Duh Duh! It got us going when we were at a low ebb.

- Zeed Haynes was sighted in the Dome, per multiple commentators. He wasn’t in uniform, but it’s a start.

- Kyle McCord didn’t throw for 300 yards for the first time this season but he did throw for 280 and two scores and his one pick wasn’t his fault – the defender impeded the receiver’s progress, got pushed down and Kyle’s ball fell right int his numbers. But it was a good comeback from the Pitt game.

- Trebor Pena, after some bad drops early, led us in receptions with 7 for 83 yards and returned a couple of punts for 23 yards. He’s been very sure-handed with punts all year and I don’t remember him making a bad decision.

- Jack Stonehouse got off 5 punts cleanly and all of them were boomers, an average of 47 yards. Three were returned for a total of 19 yards. That’s still a net of 43 yards on the exchanges. And Stonehouse was the guy who chased after and brought down Tech’s Jaylen Jones when he was running back the blocked extra points, which turned out to be critical. With brady Denaburg’s hit vs. NC State and today’s play, you can see not mess with or kickers.

- We are a different team with Marlowe Wax out there. He makes big plays, little plays and everything in between and gets his teammates doing the same. He forced the game winning fumble, which was appropriate.

- Antwaun Powell-Ryland, the terror of Tech’s defense, had only 3 tackles and 1 sack. Tech ahd only one sack and 2 TFLs. That and Allen’s big day running the ball suggested the line played pretty well.

- Despite the block, (which resulted from an O-lineman falling down and Powell-Ryland hoping over him to get to the ball), we may have found a kicker in Cornell transfer Jackson Kennedy, (AKA “The Prez” – remember when Washington had an enormous lineman named Lincoln Kennedy and they called him “The Oval Office”?). We finally got a field goal of over 40 yards: 44, a nice number.

- A grumpy SU fan who sits near me said “Game Over!” after every Tech touchdown. When we finally won it, I turned around and said to him “Game Over!!!”

6-2 with 4+ to go

Doesn’t it suck to sit next to a negative fan? (Don’t get me started on that 17 year-old AH who sat next to me in basketball.)

I really enjoyed watching the clip of the end of the other VT game. Thank you! That was fun. I don’t know if you could call this game “fun,” but many other words can apply: miraculous, unbelievable, greatest comeback, unbelievable, astonishing, jaw-dropping, unbelievable . . . :)
