- This was the kind of game we needed. The team had to suck it up and make the plays down the stretch to win the game. I didn’t know we had it in us. It’s going to take character to make something out of this season and we showed some tonight. One of my worries about this team is that, as the prospect of an NCAA bid kept slipping farther and farther away, the quality and maybe the quantity of their effort might slip away as well and something similar to what has happened in Pittsburgh, (see tonight’s Louisville score) might happen to us. It still might but tonight’s rally was encouraging.
- We moved the ball and shared at the end of that game the way I’ve been hoping to see all season. It wasn’t one on one or jack up a three as it’s been most of the year. Maybe the team shouldn’t be looking at clips of bad plays. Maybe they should look at the good ones and see what they are capable of.
- Tyler Lydon didn’t have a great shooting game, (although he made a huge NBA three with 28 seconds left. But he was a terror on the boards with 9 big rebounds and had 5 assists, (they credited him with 7 on the radio). He also blocked two shots. It’s been said that we need a player who isn’t going to allow this team to lose. Tonight it was Tyler.
- Andrew White hit five treys and was an astonishing 10 for 10 from the line, (for a guy who wouldn’t be expected to even get there 10 times). He scored 27 points and also pulled down 5 rebounds.
- Taurean Thompson scored 18 points on 7 for 10 shooting. He can’t be guarded at this level. Of course he should have had 20 points. Those two missed free throws would have made the last minute a little easier to take.
- John Gillon played a solid game He scored 6 points with 6 assists. He had 3 turnovers but made up for it with 3 steals and 2 rebounds. He missed two shots but both were three pointers: he made the basket on his one drive to the basket. He didn’t us and he did seal the win with a steal.
- Frank Howard only played 11 minutes and didn’t score but had 4 rebounds and 2 assists in that time.
